Welcome to AACKA –A Voice for Kidney Health in Our Community
It all begins with an idea.
We’re proud to introduce Afro-Caribbean Kidney Awareness (AACKA) — a community-driven cause created to raise awareness about kidney disease and its impact on African and Afro-Caribbean people.
Too often, we hear stories of loved ones being rushed to hospital with kidney complications — sometimes without any warning signs. Sadly, many in our community are unaware of the risks, symptoms, or ways to protect their kidney health.
AACKA exists to change that.
Our Mission
Educate our community about the signs, causes, and risks of kidney disease.
Encourage prevention through healthier lifestyle choices, regular check-ups, and early testing.
Support those already living with kidney conditions through shared stories, resources, and community connection.
Advocate for better healthcare access and culturally aware support systems.
Why We Started
Kidney disease is a silent killer. It often goes undetected until it’s serious, and research shows that people of African and Afro-Caribbean descent are up to five times more likely to develop kidney-related illnesses. Whether due to high blood pressure, diabetes, or lack of access to early screening, the outcome is the same: too many are suffering in silence.
